Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do with this stuff once I've downloaded it?

Place all .iff files in your "Downloads" folder (if you did the standard installation, this is c:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Downloads). Put all files from skins in your skins folder (c:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Game Data\Skins). If you download walls, put them in the walls folder ( c:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Game Data\Walls), and floors go in the floors folder (c:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Game Data\Floors). As you might guess, roofs go in the roof folder (c:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Game Data\Roofs). You can just open the appropriate folder and then drag and drop them out of WinZip and into the right place. Another tool you might find helpful is SimZip which installs everything except roofs for you, and is used in place of Winzip. It can be found at SimsPlus. Simply run the program, drag a zip onto the white area, and wait for the installation to be completed.

Why don't you update more often?

Everything you see on this site is the work of one person (two on the rare occasions my husband feels like making something). As a result, updates come only as I find time to do them. This is a hobby, and we have two little children as well as careers. Therefore, I cannot make any promises about the frequency of updates. I will, however, give you warning if I don't intend to update again (probably by moving to a free server full of ads). I am a teacher, so it's a good bet that most updates will happen on a weekend, a (US) national holiday, or during the summer. If you like what you see or you would like to be notified of updates, please drop us a line and say so! If you're really pleased with us, there's always the PayPal button at the top. Every little bit counts.

Which expansion packs do I need to use your objects?

Beats the heck outta me. I only own Living Large and Hot Date, so that's all you should need, and maybe not even that.

What do you use to make stuff?

For all of the objects, I cloned an original object using the Sims Transmogrifier, and then replaced it with an original object which I modified using Adobe Photoshop. You could also use a different paint program, such as Paint Shop Pro. Most of these have free trial versions which you can download. Some of the original objects were taken from a photo which I found online. Others are 3D objects which I made in Cinema 4D. Again, other 3D software could also be used, and knowledge of 3D software is not at all necessary for object creation. Skins are made using Adobe Photoshop, and then testing them with Simposium. Walls and floors are made using Photoshop and Homecrafter, available at the official Sims site.

How do I get started making stuff?

This is probably one of the best tutorials for new objects out there. Several other good tutorials are here. If you are interesting in skinning, there is a program available at Cloth Menagerie

SimGoddesses again
Another program I find useful for testing skins is SimPose.
